ABC Family is known for breaking the rules every once in a while and taking their viewers where no other station has gone before with show like;Lincoln Heights and Greek. Now they have gone into the world of teen pregnancy with their original series The Secret Life of the American Teenager; base around 15-year-old Amy Juergens, a nice, smart, good girl who had a pretty easy life until one mistake changed her life. She found out she was pregnant after sleeping with local bad boy Ricky Underwood at band camp. The series follows Amy as she goes through the ups and downs of becoming a young mother, it also shows how Amy’s pregnancy has affected the lives of her classmates, friends, and family.

People are calling series Juno meets 7th Heaven, which is no surprise considering the shows creator Brenda Hampton also created the family drama 7th Heaven; which ran for 12 years. No word yet if that’s how long Secret Life will run but it has already been picked up for a second season on ABC Family, won a Teen Choice Award, and stolen the hearts of many teenage fans.

The series also has critics raving about how great it is; New York Times say that with movies like Knocked Up and teen mother Jamie Lynn Spears gracing the cover of every magazine showing the lighter side of unprotected sex; it’s a good thing that ABC Family is sending the corrective message to young viewers. It seems that this new teen drama is a win with not only Sparkling Stars but other as well, so if we got you wanting to start watching you won’t have to wait long The Secret Life of the American Teenager first season hits store on December 30th and season two beings airing on ABC Family in 2009.
