A Mother, A Friend
By Editor • May 1st, 2009 • Category: Exclusives, Movies & TV, TelevisionTV moms aren’t just fictional characters, every decade there comes a TV mom we wish we had, however that does not mean we do not love our real mothers, it just periodically we wish we could have the mothers of are favorite TV character, a mom that is not are own.
A few years ago most teens have wanted Marion Cunningham (Happy Days) as their TV mom, after her it was Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), and then it was Kitty Foreman (That 70s Show), but now our studies show that the TV mom our readers would most like to have is the fun loving, fast talking, coffee loving mom that is, Lorelai Gilmore.
Gilmore Girls was a hugely popular series, which followed Lorelai Gilmore; a single mom, who got pregnant at 16 and is trying to raise her now 16 year old daughter Rory, making sure she gets the best education she can get by going to the highly prestigious prep school Chilton, then to Yale University. Although Gilmore Girls has been off the air for few years now, Lorelai still has place in our hearts.
She was not the typical mother; she did not overprotect her daughter, or try to control her; she let her make her own mistakes and was always there for her. However every so often she played the mom card and land down some ground rules, but through it all she was more than a mom she was a friend.
By the end of the series the Gilmore Girls went their separate ways; and Lorelai grow into a stronger and smarter person, but never lost her outgoing, creative personality we all loved so much.
She has gained a place in the TV mother’s hall of fame, she shows us that even though moms can sometimes be hard on us, embarrassing, feel like they are out to ruin are lives, and overbearing, they can also be our friends and they might even be a little cooler then we think, even if it is hard to believe; we just have to remember they were teenagers once before, and know what we are going through.
