784px-the_first_thanksgiving_jean_louis_gerome_ferrisWhen you sit down this Thanksgiving I bet there is a good chance their well be turkey and dressing and maybe cranberry sauce, mash potatoes and pumpkin pie for dessert, but is this traditional Thanksgiving food that was served on the first Thanksgiving.

The first Thanksgiving was in the in early autumn of 1621 and was called the autumn feast and lasted three to seven days the food on that table wasn’t what we traditionally eat today.

There were ducks, venison, corn, pumpkin, squash, cabbage, dried fruit , fish such a lobster, clams, the supply of flour had run out so was no bread or pastries, but they boiled pumpkin and the Indians showed the pilgrims how to make fried bread out of corn.

So this November 26 when you sit down with the ones you love just think about that first thanksgiving table and remember that it does not matter what you server as long as it comes from the heart.

Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
