Sparkling Stars Reviewer Says: “Clint Eastwood puts his master film maker to work.”
This movie follows the story of what happens when Nelson Mandela becomes president of South Africa? He rejects revenge, forgives oppressors who jailed him 27 years for his fight against apartheid and finds hope of national unity in an unlikely place: the rugby field.
This uplifting film about a team and a people inspired to greatness. Morgan Freeman (Oscar nominee for this role) is Mandela,
who asks the national rugby team captain (played by Oscar nominee Matt Damon) and his squad to do the impossible and win the World Cup. Prepare to be moved and thrilled.
The film does a great job of providing a mix of sports and far-seeing political strategy. The rugby scenes are nicely done and if you have never seen a rugby game problem figuring out the game. The movie has important historical and social aspects, and will lead to many discussions after viewing it.
Freeman does a great job as the role of Mandela and Matt Damon did a nice job pulling off the part of a rugby player despite his non-rugby like appearance. Clint Eastwood puts his master film maker to work and comes out on top once again.
