Anime/Cartoon: Young Justice
Genre: Action | Comedy
Channel: Cartoon Network
There have been too many superhero cartoons to count; from DC to Marvel there are animated shows that feature some of your favorite comic book characters in the same universe and others that are in completely separate worlds, which at times can be a bit confusing. And, now there is a whole new generation of adolescent superheroes; Young Justice brings together the so called sidekicks of Batman, Flash, and Aquaman; who go by the names of Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad. Those three adolescent heroes are joined by Superboy, Artemis, and Miss Martian to create the Young Justice team a young and by the looks of it funnier version of the Justice league.
The half an hour animated series will being airing in January 2011, however Cartoon Network aired a special one however long premier episode of the series back in November 2010.
Right off the bat the show started off great with a fast passed storyline that didn’t drag on one bit and kept its viewers entertained. The first episode focused mainly on of Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad; with an action packed adventure that lead them to find Superboy, who happens to be a clone of Superman. I was never a big fan of Aqualad, but this new series gives him yet a serious personality but a soft and caring nature as well that I seemed to like. Robin was a techno geek which is very different from the Dick Grayson persona that fans have come to know. Kid Flash was just like most of the Flashes, funny and impulsive. Throughout the episode Aqualad took charge and you can surely tell he is the leader of the group; also I loved how Kid Flash and Robin characters worked off each other with some humorous banter. But, unlike the show “Teen Titans” all the characters seem to fit together in some way or another which is what I look for in a show.
In the episode they come across a Project Cadmus, the writer didn’t give away too much in the one hour special and you can be certain there is more Cadmus to come; I believe it was a great being to a mystery that will soon be focused on throughout the cartoon. The show had a great combination of both comedy and action; it wasn’t just a one tone show but brought various things to the storyline. However, the one disappointment in the episode I had was that it seemed to be a boy’s only club and didn’t include one girl superhero. As you can tell from the promo pictures there are two girls add to the team and in the end of the episode the boys were introduced to Miss Martian, but I would have loved to see a girl go on the first mission with them to out balance the installment and appeal to its girl audience. That fact aside I must say I truly enjoyed the first chapter of this new animated series and can’t wait to see what is to come for the team. Young Justice is set to jump back in the adventure on Cartoon Network in 2011.
