First Impression Review: Almay Smart Shade Mousse Foundation

There is a bunch of new beauty products released at the drugstore just in time for the New Year. One of the makeup items I picked up was the new Almay Smart Shade Mouse Makeup. Mouse based foundations are becoming hugely popular in the beauty world. I thought I’d give this new product a try since I’m a tremendous fan of the Revlon Whipped Cream Foundation.

The foundation comes in a small jar containing .7 Fl. Oz. of product, retailing for 9.99 – 11.89 depending on your locations. I found that the amount of foundation that you get is quite little for a price tag of around $10. However, the packaging is neat, and the product is compact for travel. Also, the smart shade makeup line is makeup that self matches to your skin tone. The mouse is a white color and is suppose to blend into your prefect skin color.

When applying the first coat, I could immediately tell that I would need a second layer of product, so it is a moderately sheer foundation but build-able. I finished off with about three layers of foundation, yet keep in mind that I have acne prone skin and some acne scaring. If you have fairly clear skin, you probably will only need to apply one coat of foundation. Furthermore, the foundation did match my skin color pretty good with the exception of being a tad dark and a bit orange

After wearing the foundation for about six hours, I looked a bit patchy and caky in my t-zone. However, I noticed that this product is good for oily skin types, like me because I was not oily or shiny except for little to no sheen on my nose. Overall I would most likely not repurchase this product because there are other foundations, drugstore and high-end that I find work better for my skin type. Still, I do think that the concept of a mouse foundation that matched to your skin is pretty good and useful for people that are not exactly sure of their skin tone shade.
