Ah, Mother’s Day; is a day for moms all over the globe to kick back, relax, and let the cards stream in. Featuring breakfast in bed, flowers, and of course, a day at the spa – but wait! What about the movie marathons? The tear jerking, hard-core snogging, romantic, and girly flicks that can make even the hardest women crack? Mother’s Day is just not complete without the movie marathons. The question is what movies make the cut?

The first movie on every mom’s list should be the 2002 flick “The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood”. The movie is about a playwright named Siddalee Walker who is just about to make her, big break in the entertainment world. But when she does a magazine interview and reveals her unhappy childhood, her mother becomes furious and humiliated. The Ya-Ya Sisterhood, a former secret society made up of Siddalee’s mother’s closet friends, kidnap Siddalee from her New York apartment and takes her back to her hometown, Louisiana. It’s there where they show Siddalee the top secret Ya-Ya scrapbook which explains why her mother mistreated her.

Following “The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” is the hilarious movie “Monster-in-law”, staring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda. After countless failed relationships and various blind dates, Charlotte “Charlie” Cantilini (Lopez) finally finds her Prince Charming; Dr. Kevin Fields (Michael Vartan). When Kevin proposes, Charlie thinks everything is going to be perfect – until she meets Viola, Kevin’s crazy mother.

Traumatized by the loss of her career as a news anchor, Viola tries to hold onto her son by trying to scare off Charlie. Viola’s long-time assistant, Ruby, tries to help the best she can, but Charlie can see right through her nice girl façade and fights back. The claws come out as the women fight to see just who the alpha-female in the family is.

Just as funny as it is romantic-comedy, “Because I Said So”, it is also another Mother’s Day must-see. The film’s plot revolves around the overprotective love between Daphne Wilder and her three daughters, Maggie, Mae, and Milly. Maggie is a calm psychologist with her life set out for her while Mae is the sexy and impertinent wild-cat of the family. And then there’s Milly, the shy, adorable, and insecure wall-flower who, when it comes to men, is like a Venus flytrap.

With the aim of trying to protect her youngest daughter from making the same mistakes as she did, Daphne tries setting Milly up with the perfect man. As the movie plays out, comic mayhem unfolds as Daphne continues doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. Their mother-daughter bond is put to the test in the complexity, but in the end, the girls help Daphne finally learn the rights and wrongs of motherly love and how far it really should go.

The next film in your stack should definitely be, “Georgia Rule”. It shows the inseparable love between grandmothers, mothers, and daughters, no matter what happens. Lily, the dysfunctional alcoholic mother, ships her uncontrollable rebel daughter, Rachel, to Idaho to spend the summer with her strict by the book grandmother, Georgia, to try and straighten her out. But when hidden family secrets are revealed, Lily finds the real meaning behind Rachel’s rebellious attitude. The three women ultimately come to an understanding that, despite what happens; the relationship between them can never be broken.

And, of course, who could forget the bubbly musical “Mamma Mia!”? Set on the colorful islands of beautiful Greece, this movie is sure to reel you in at the start. Sophie Sheridan wants her father to walk her down the aisle at her wedding, but finds out from her mother’s old diary that her dad could be any one of three men. When she secretly invites all three to visit behind her mothers back, conflict and confusion begins to arise, all leading up to the big question which one is the her father? With a load of ABBA songs, this movie will have you up off the couch and singing along in know time.

Now, the movie list is ready, the popcorn is popped – what are you waiting for? Plop yourself on the couch, curl up in some comfy pj’s, and hit play for a fun night designed specifically with you in mind.

We all know Natasha Richardson from movies such as The Parent Trap, Evening, and Maid in Manhattan, but most of us don’t know a lot about her early life. During this article, we will be following the journey of her glamourous life before it was abruptly ended by a tragic skiing accident.

Natasha Jane Richardson was born May 11th, 1963 to parents Vanessa Redgrave and Tony Richardson in London, England. She had one younger sister, Joely Richardson, who is also an actress on the show Nip/Tuck.

Natasha was trained at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama and performed in numerous stage roles such as Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Ophelia in Hamlet. In 1986, she was awarded the London Drama Critics’ Most Promising Newcomer award for her role as Nina in The Seagull. She performed alongside her mother and Jonathan Pryce. In 1987, she played Tracey Lord in Richard Eyre’s musical High Society.

In 1990, she got married to film maker Robert Fox, but the marriage began to fall apart and eventually ended in a divorce in 1992. Two years later, she got married to actor Liam Neeson who she met on the TV mini-series Ellis Island. The wedding was held on July 3rd at their home in New York under a white tent. Natasha wore a wedding dress designed by Donna Karan and was given away by actor Franco Nero since her mother was unable to make the wedding. Seventy guests attended, including Steven Spielberg, Emma Thompson, and Ron Shelton.

Shortly after in 1991, her father was killed by AIDS-related causes. Crushed by the death of him, she helped raise millions of dollars to help fight against aids through charities such as the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

Natasha has earned many awards, including The London Evening Standard Award for Best Actress of 1990, London Drama Critics’ Best Actress Award in 1992, the Best Actress Award at the 1994 Karlovy Vary Festival, the Tony, Outer Critics Circle, Drama League and Drama Desk Awards for Best Actress in a Musical in 1998, and many more. She was nominated for a Tony for Best Actress in a Play, a Theatre World Award for Outstanding Debut, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Debut of an Actress, and a Drama Desk nomination for Best Actress.

In 1995 in Dublin, Ireland, Natasha gave birth to her first son, Micheal Richard Antonia Neeson. A year later, she gave birth to another son, Daniel Jack Neeson.

On March 16th, 2009, the 45-year-old star was skiing on the slops of Mont Tremblant in beautiful Montreal, Ontario. During her lesson, she fell, but shrugged off the accident since she appeared to be uninjured. Later in the evening she felt unwell, so she was taken to a local hospital.

Natasha’s condition quickly went from bad to worse, so she was flown to a New York medical Center the next day. On Wednesday, March 18th, 2009, her mother and husband made the decision to switch off her life support machine, and Natasha died a few hours later.

As we take a step back and look at her life’s accomplishments, we can see that Natasha was not only a great actress, but a great mother, sister, daughter, and spouse. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say her death was unexpected. Several stars have posted their reactions to her death around the internet and in magazines, and as we grieve the life of this wonderful actress, may we keep her spirit alive in her hearts and prayers.
