Thousands of years ago, our ancestors lived in the wild. We know them as cavemen. Language was very scarce there, and communicating with other tribes who spoke differently then them was hard. So they started to draw on walls, creating pictures and recording things that happened on hunts. These pictures were used to tell tales, to record history, and to list prophecies. These pictures were used for the two tribes to communicate more easily. The pictures on the walls became very sacred to the cavemen.

After a certain amount of time, their brains began to grow and develop, and our ancestors became smarter. Now that they knew haw to speak in full words and sentences, they began to write the alphabet. They stuck sounds with letters, and the ABCs were born. But, as every tribe thought differently, the alphabet varied from place to place.

That is why, in other languages, they are missing letters or have some extra ones thrown in. Soon after the ABCs were born, people began to put letters together to spell out words. Means of communication was greatly improved, and people were able to better trade, communicate, and get along with one another.

Unfortunately, not everyone was happy with these great new findings. Some people became selfish, claiming that only the rich should know how to read and write, for it was a work of God. Others thought that letters were tiny demon spirits, made for creeping onto one’s head and attack the brain. But no matter what people thought of these new things, things did not turn out right. People started wars so they could have the privilege to read, while others burned books and all that loved them.

People slowly came around to see that writing could be used for a greater means–the spreading of religion. Bibles and other religious things were created and shipped out all over the world. People would read these things and would either strongly agree, or strongly disagree. This also started many wars, wars that we are still fighting to this very day.

Now, even though many have found safety in the warm pages of a book or the comforting rustle of pages, many still cannot read and others believe that they should not. This kind of thing has greatly affected these children’s live and many have not found jobs and died all because they weren’t educated.

While writing holds many wonders of Mark Twain and Shakespeare, it also has a very bloody past.
